What is Green Infrastructure?
Green Infrastructure is the practice of managing stormwater runoff by using natural systems to re-establish healthy drainage. These systems allow for the infiltration and treatment of stormwater before it is released into conventional storm sewer systems.
Communities can invest in smart stormwater infrastructure, to help reduce the impact of pollutants and flooding. The City of Walker has adopted a resolution permitting the use of residential curb cut rain gardens to be installed in the public right of way, to help manage the impact of runoff in residential areas.
Walker connects residents to local organizations, such as the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds (LGROW) for help in designing site specific rainscaping and stormwater management solutions.
