Permits

When is a permit needed?

A stormwater permit may be required if a new development alters the grade or drainage course of a proposed site. This permit is to ensure all stormwater runoff from the new development will be controlled and treated. These efforts ultimately reduce flooding to all sites downstream of the development.

Design Standards for Development

All new developments in Walker must meet the Stormwater Design Standards for Development, and all parts of Chapter 67 of the Code of Ordinances. Below are highlights of the standards that must be met for all proposed developments:

Water Quality

  • Treat the runoff from the 90% annual non-exceedance storm (approximately 1")
  • Reduce TSS to 80 mg/L or
  • Reduce TSS by 80%

Channel Protection

  • Maintain post-development project site runoff volume and peak flow rate at or below pre-development for all storms up to the 2-year, 24-hour event.

Other Required Changes

  • Water quality and quantity regulations apply to road and sidewalk work if impervious surface increase is 1 acre or more.
  • Private stormwater facility owners must submit a maintenance agreement that details a maintenance plan and schedule, facility map, and stormwater infrastructure inventory.
  • Variances will NOT be issued for the water quality or channel protection requirements.
