Ward 2 Commissioner Babcock
My name is Jessica Babcock and I was recently appointed to serve as Ward 2 Commissioner along with Roxanne Deschaine.
I grew up in Hudsonville and lived there until moving to Walker in 2012. After living here for the last 10 years, I learned that it truly is a special place. The people, parks, events, and businesses are top-notch. My husband, Matt, and I married in August of 2010. We have two kids, our daughter Collins and son Calor, who both attend Kenowa Hills Central Elementary. We also have two dogs. We enjoy camping, swimming, music, and spending time with friends and family.
In 2005, I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a Business minor. In 2013, I graduated from Davenport University with a degree in Human Resources.
I work at Suburban Inns, a locally owned hospitality management company, as the Vice President of Human Resources. My main focus at Suburban Inns is to bring strategic leadership and insight in both the Human Resource aspect, as well as in overall organizational decisions. We are a company that prides itself on being helpful to others while serving a quality product and working responsibly to be the best hospitality company around.
Before becoming Commissioner, I chaired the City of Walker’s Community Engagement Committee. Throughout my time in that position, our team made great progress in getting the community more involved. The pandemic forced us to shift many of our engagement activities to either being virtual or having little crowds. We started the Standale Scarecrow and Wreath contests and hosted virtual events like the sidewalk chalk art and design a tie for the Mayor contests. The group’s momentum is only going to get stronger! Be on the lookout for more great events and activities organized by this group. If you have any ideas, please email them to CEC@walker.city.
As a Commissioner, I look forward to serving the City by offering my talents as a business leader to support the great work already being done by the City Staff. I have been appointed to the following committees:
Building
Parks and Rec
Mineral Mining
Personnel (Alternate)
