POLICIES FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION FACILITIES

 Scheduling of “outdoor recreation facilities” under the control of the Parks & Recreation Department will occur with the following priority.

  1. Any City of Walker program, event or activity. 
  2. Any City of Walker sponsored program, event or activity.
  3. Any Kenowa Hills Public Schools program, event or activity.
  4. Any program, event, activity or league subject to a City of Walker contract, with priority given to the group with the most participants that live within the City of Walker.
  5. Other public or private organizations or individuals, taken on a “first come – first served” basis, with priority given to those located or living within the City of Walker.
Rental Guidelines
  • All non-sporting events shall require approval from the Walker City Manager’s office.
  • Nothing will be sold, exhibited, or displayed without permission from the Walker City Manager’s office.
  • The City of Walker may enforce additional regulations which they may deem necessary to protect property and promote safety.
  • The City of Walker reserves the right to require the applicant to furnish, before use of the facilities, a certificate of liability insurance coverage naming the City of Walker as additional insured.
  • All applications for the use of the available outdoor recreation facilities can be reserved online at walkericeandfitness.com or by contacting the City of Walker Recreation Department.  Requests must be received within 1 week of the rental date for proper approval.
  • No reservations shall be valid until the permit has been signed and posted by the City of Walker Recreation Department.
  • Use/Rental of any outdoor recreation facilities must be scheduled through the City of Walker Recreation Department.  Full payment must be paid at time of reservation and proof of residency by picture I.D.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 2 business days in advance to receive a 50% refund. In case of severe weather, you may reschedule through the City of Walker Recreation Department.  
  • All renters are required to dispose of their own trash.  Dumpsters are available at Walker Ice & Fitness Center.
  • The permit holder is responsible for all damages incurred to parks and property during its use.
  • The City of Walker reserves the right to refuse or revoke a permit at any time.
  • The use of intoxicants or alcoholic beverages on city property is prohibited.
  • All motorized vehicles on city park property are prohibited.
  • All outdoor recreation facilities shall close at dark or at 10:00 P.M., whichever is earlier.  Exception:  City sponsored events.

The following, rental fees were adopted by the City Commission on November 26, 2019.  To reserve an outdoor facility, please visit our website at www.walkericeandfitness.com.  You may also contact the Recreation Department at 735-6286.

Special Permit (city sponsored events or non-profit fundraising events $100 $150
Large Gathering Permit (over 50 people - in addition to above fees). Administrative fee may also be applied. $150 $200

No facility fees will be charged to public organizations such as units of government, Kenowa Hills Public Schools, Comstock Park Public Schools, Grandville Public Schools, the Walker Branch of Kent District Libraries, etc., unless the Walker City Manager determines that fees are necessary to cover extraordinary expenses related to facility preparation, public safety services and/or facility clean up.
